Hi

First list down all the mechanical companies you would like to work with or would like to do project or internship with.
Make a very appealing CV with cover letter.
Try to find contacts/relative/ friend working at good position in these companies and try to push your CV and cover letter, through them.
Being an employ, HR feel bounded to answer them. If you apply to HR directly, chances are there that they may not even look at them.
