Before I begin with the process of explaining all the requirements to become a astronaut you should keep few things in your mind.
Firstly it is a very long process. There is not a single course that can make you astronaut. It would require years of academic studies and hard traning to actually become an astronaut. You should know about the dangers present in space and the kind of complex technology that astronaut needs to understand. It can only be done through years of studies in the related field. Not to mention the physical requirements to withstand the extreme conditions especially when crossing the Earth's atmosphere and coping with the zero gravity of the space. It is a very difficult thing to do and only hard traning can prepare you for it. You should also understand that there is no scope of astronaut in India. So far ISRO has not sent man into space. Neither the agency has any plans in the near future. However things may change by the time you will be eligible to become astronaut. As for now, you will have to try with NASA. Eligibility 1. You should complete 12th with PCM as the subjects. 2. A graduation degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, biology or B.Tech in Aerospace 3. After graduation you will have to pursue post graduation followed by PhD. 4. Next you will need 3 years of related and progressively experience. 5. Once you have the necessary experience, apply for the NASA exam for recruitment of scientists and astronauts. If you are selected by the NASA then you will get a chance to become Mission Specialist. But before you fly to the space, there would a requirement to go through various tests to be prepared for space challanges. Some of the extensive training would include Aircraft weightless training lessons, Shuttle Mission Simulator. Once you have completed all the training with the satisfaction of NASA experts, you will get a change to onboard space shuttle. |
