What is the minimum and maximum age limit for UPSC exam 2018?


I'm interested in appearing for UPSC exam 2018 but, a bit confused about exact age limitation? What are the minimum and maximum age eligibility for UPSC exam 2018? Can you please provide me with the right information on the same? Awaiting the response.

UPSC CSE has the following criteria for age :

1) One should have attained age of 21 years before applying for the exam.

2) One should have not attained the age more than 32 years if he/she belongs to Unreserved Category. However if you belong to :

- SC/ST : 5 years age relaxation will be given i.e Upto 37 years.

- OBC : 3 years age relaxation will be given i.e upto 35 years.

UPSC ( Union Public Service Commission ) and it is the constitutional body which conducts various entrance examination for recruitment as an officer.

The most common entrance examination conducted by UPSC is Civil Service Examination.

The eligibility to appear in examination is that candidate must have passed bachelor degree from a recognised university.

The age limit is 21-32 years with relaxation of 3 years and 5 years for in upper limit for reserved category.

The examination is conducted in three stages and candidates have to qualify in all stages for final selection. To get any information regarding the examination visit at www.upsc.gov.in.

UPSC refers to Union Public Service Commission and as the name suggests same is a commission that conducts different entrance examination for recruitment of personnel as central government employee in various fields such as administrative field, defense field, etc. .

Now, as far as you are concerned about the age limit for UPSC examination which generally refers to Civil Services examination which is held for recruitment of administrative officers then it is 21 years to 32 years. Further there is provision of age relaxation for reserved category candidates as per the government norms.

The full form of UPSC is Union Public Service Commission. Union Public Service Commission is a examination conducting body.

Some of the exams conducted are:

NDA exam: 16.5-19.5 years.

CDS examination: 19-25 years.

Civil Services examination: 21-32 years.

CAPF exam: 20-25 years.

The minimum age criteria required to apply for UPSC 2018 examination is 21 years and the maximum age criteria is 30 years. The age criteria required to apply for UPSC examination varies from post to post. Upper age relaxation of 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ ST candidates is applicable as per government rules to apply for UPSC examination.

The minimum maximum age limit for Union Public Service Commission Civil Services examination is :

Minimum age: 21 years.

Maximum age: 32 years.

This age is extended for Other Backward Class citizens, it is 35 years and for SC/ST candidates is 37 years.

Minimum and Maximum Age limit for UPSC exam is mentioned below:
  • For General: 21 to 32 years
  • For OBC: 21 to 35 years
  • For SC/ST: 21 to 37 years
  • For PH (Blind, Deaf, Orthopedic): 21 to 42 years

Number of attempts for UPSC exam is mentioned below:
  • For General: 6
  • For OBC: 9
  • For SC/ST: No Restriction

Next UPSC Civil Services Prelims exams notification would be released by UPSC 7th February 2018.
Last date to apply is 6th march 2018.
UPSC prelims exams is on 3rd June 2018.


Educational Qualifications to appear in this exams:Graduation pass in any stream from an recognised University

Age Limit:Minimum 21 years for all candidates
Maximum age is 32 years for General category candidates
3 years age relation for OBC candidates
5 years for SC/ST candidates

Number of attempts:
6 attempts for general candidates
9 attempts for OBC candidates
No restriction for SC/ST candidates

As far as you are concerned about the age limit for appearing in UPSC examination ( officially known as Civil Services examination ) then it is as following :-

* for general category candidates :- 21 years to 32 years.

* for OBC category candidates :- 21 years to 35 years.

* for SC/ST category candidates :- 21 years to 37 years.

Further candidates belonging to physically handicapped category get age relaxation of 10 years in addition to the age relaxation they get based in the caste.
