SCRA stands for Special Class Railway Apprentice

Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA) is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) board.

The examination comprises written test in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language, General Knowledge, and Psychological Test (Mental Ability). The selected candidates are called for an interview, which is followed by a medical examination. The standard of syllabus is that of Class XII (CBSE equivalent).

Candidates who clear SCRA, get a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering after successful completion of four years of training. This degree is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education.

SCRA exam 2011 will be conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and is scheduled to be held on 31st July, 2011.

SPECIAL CLASS RAILWAY APPRENTICES, SCRA Examination was conducted by UPSC Every year. And to appear in this examination you must have passed in the first or second division, the Intermediate or an equivalent Examination of a University or Board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

Or Graduates with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as their degree subjects may also apply for SCRA examination.

But to appear for this exam your age should between 17 to 21 years.

The Union Public Service Commission will hold this for recruitment to the Special

Class Apprentices in the Mechanical Department of India Railways. The

examination will be held at various centers across the country.

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIRED FOR THE

SCRA EXAMINATION.

Age limits:

Not less than 17 years and not more than 21 years on 01st August

of the year of exam.

The upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC and certain other categories

Educational qualifications:

SCRA examination for selection of candidates for appointment as Special Class Railway Apprentices in Mechanical Department of Indian Railways will be held by the Union Public Service Commission on 31st July, 2011 in accordance with the Rules published by the Ministry of Railways (Railways Board) in the Gazette of India dated the 26th March, 2011.

Application procedure:-

(a) Candidates may apply Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination SCRA 2011 Online application form by using the websitehttp://www.upsconline.nic.in. Detailed instructions for filling up SCRA Online applications are available on the above mentioned website.

(b) Candidates may also apply SCRA Offline in the new Common Application form (Form-E) devised by the Union Public Service Commission for SCRA examination 2011, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices / Post Offices (specified in Appendix III of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of 30/- (Rupees Thirty Only). Each such Form can be used only once and only for one UPSC SCRA examination 2011.

The approximate number of SCRA Job Vacancies, to be filled on the results of the SCRA examination is 42.

Note : Four vacancies in SCRA are reserved for physically challenged candidates belonging to Orthopaedically Handicapped having functional classifications OA, OL.
The number of SCRA vacancies mentioned above is liable to alteration. Reservation will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Physically Disabled categories in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the Government.

Special Class Railway Apprentices’ Examination (SCRA 2011) :
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold the Special Class Railway Apprentices’ Examination (SCRA), 2011 on 19/12/2011 for recruitment to the Special Class Apprentices in the Mechanical Department of Indian Railways.

Application Form of UPSC SCRA 2011: The candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its SCRA Recruitment 2011, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/ Post offices throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 20/- only.
Fee: Rs.50/- through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only for the candidates applying through Offline method (SC/ST/PH/Female candidates are exempted from payment (OBC candidates required to pay full fee)). Those applying through Online method, required to pay Rs.25/- in any branch of SBI by cash or by using Netbanking facility of SBI or by using Visa/ Master Credit/Debit Card.


The exam conduct two part:-
Part I is a written exam with a total of 600 marks.
Part II is a personality test of 200 marks. The candidates who qualify the written exam are called for the interview.

The subjects of Part I are provided below
Paper I is a General Ability Test which include English, General Knowledge and Psychological Test.
Paper II is a test of Physics and Chemistry.
Paper III is Mathematics.

The duration of all the papers is 2 hours and the maximum marks carried by each of the exam are 600.
The questions will be all multiple choice types and will be set in English only. The questions will be of the Intermediate Standard. The question will use SI units wherever necessary.

The commission has the full right to fix qualifying marks in all the subjects or any of the subjects. Candidates are required to clear the cut off marks to be eligible for the interview.

then you have your interviews in UPSC office in delhi.
interview was taken by 5 oficials who will check you maths chemistr phisics and GK knowledge..
finally i got selected for the medical ... but i thoghut of something else and went for iit delhi chemical engg...

this exam is conducted by UPSC twice in every year.
for appear in this exam you must have to complete your +2 class with PCM group.
exam pattern of SCRA EXAM comprises of the following papers:
