Re: What are the steps required to prepare for IAS/IPS?
It good to see that you have an aim in your life. The civil service exam being highly competitive you need to start preparations early. You should make it a point to read newspapers, magazines, year books for the general awareness section. Also start preparing for the other aptitude oriented questions for the first level i.e. CSAT. Once you have covered the syllabus for this CSAT you can start preparing for the Mains too. You can select subjects from the mechanical stream. The list of options is provided in the UPSC site. While preparing for the Mains make sure you regularly solve papers for the CSAT section.

Re: What are the steps required to prepare for IAS/IPS?
IAS Preparation
For an exam that can give you an envied career for live, the prepartions have to be massive. Your IAS Preparations have to be dedicated and half hearted attempts will get you nowhere. With almost 2 lakh students competing for 700 odd posts, its a tough cookie to crack. If you think that its like any exam that you have cleared so far beware it simply isn't. The Ias exam is like no other is scale and approach and tehrefore your preprations have to be very different and very wide based. Just knowledge of a subject will get you nowhere. It has to be combined with a jack-of-all-subjects kind of approach. We hope you will indeed take your IAS Preparations very seriously. The first step towards that is obviously the choice of subjects. Do choose them wisely. |

Re: What are the steps required to prepare for IAS/IPS?
Dear Student,
The minimum qualification for UPSC Civil Services and Other State Public Service Commission Exams is Graduation. Fortunately you are doing B.Tech. which enables you to make analysis in any segment of the study. Initially you don't take any decision. When you become for final year from there start preparation for Civil Services with foundational Study. I know one coaching institute in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh which helped me to learn subjects from basic level i.e. foundational coaching. you just contact them they will assist you. LAKSHYA INSTITUTE Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh-530016. Ph: 9247024377, 9247022477 |

Re: What are the steps required to prepare for IAS/IPS?
IAS is one of the prestigious exam in India. you have to work hard to clear this examination.
There are three steps actually 1. prelims 2. mains 3. Interview 1. prelims in prelims you have to give two papers first is CSAT which require aptitude and reasoning so try to focus on these areas, to improve them you can take help of R. S. Agarwala second is GS which require knowledge of polity, geography, history along with current affair. so do read these things along with news paper. 2. Mains Total 7 papers+ 2 papers(qualifying) There are four papers of general science so you have to read about current affairs and all that There are two papers for optional subject. you have to choose one optional and studied it thoroughly. you must have the ability to write essay so prepare for it. Along with this you have to give two papers english + hindi they are of qualifying nature having minimum cut offs and their marks are not going to count in final score. 3. Interview if you clear both above steps, you have to give interview. for interview you have to prepare the fields which you have choosen in mains and all that. Best of luck... |

Re: What are the steps required to prepare for IAS/IPS?
Since you are in the 1st year of your engineering so there is ample time for you to prepare for the IAS/IPS exam. Its good that you have started thinking about this from right now. Now lets decide a road map for you-
1) Start reading newspaper everyday. Subscribe to "THE HINDU". No other newspaper. 2) Since you are an engineering student so you can opt some of your field subjects only in the paper. 3) But, GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, POLITY needs to be given time. Start taking time for this right away. Go through NCERT. Make a goal to read at least half chapter each day. Since you have 3 years so you have a lot of time. 4) In the final year, i do recommend you to join some coaching class. Its not that you will gain knowledge there. But your knowledge will be brushed up and also the competitive surroundings will accelerate your chances to clear the exam. 5) For now, focus on Newspaper and general knowledge. Stay connected to world and also do focus on your technical subjects. Those will also fetch you marks. |
