GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering) This is the toughest exam after CAT In Entrances

It will better if you start the preparation as early as possible

so you get ample time to perform better and better

my suggestion start your preparation from right now

starting preparation doesn't require huge amount of money or bunking the classes or keeping leave to college for the sake for preparation

the syllabus is all related to your course

Just highly concentrate on your class work and then do preparation in view of GATE exam

i.e., just learn concept which is explained by your faculty very thoroughly and write some note points

with your creativity create some questions

and think upon in how many ways a question can be asked and twisted

so that your level of thinking will increase in the range of Examiner the question paper will be not like what you expect

Just do your hardwork with smart plans

definitely you will succeed

there are many of my friends who followed the same and tasted the success

And one more thing regarding Coaching

yes in my view coaching is essential for the competitive exam like GATE

Because the competition is very heavy for this exam

Go for good coaching institute by taking the feedback of your seniors in your area

keep the expenses on your preparation low and worthy

Its better for you to start the preparation for GATE exam as early as possible.

GATE score is valid for a period of 2 years.

So, you can appear for the GATE exam in your final year of B.Tech and after the completion of final year.

You can use the score which is high.

Make a time table yourself in a day to prepare for the GATE exam.

Planning should be important. Prepare yourself a comprehensive plan of what subjects to study and when to study.

Go through previous year papers of GATE exam and go through some GATE questions and answers books.

One fact you need to know is that questions in GATE will be from your B.tech course, so you should have strong understanding of what you are studying now.
And why are thinking of coaching fro now itself, coaching material will from your semester courses only, so you will be paying double fee for same content.

If you think you need coaching then you start in 7 0r 8th semester.
And dont take much tension for GATE from know itself, enjoy your btech life.

Well don't wait for the 5th and 7th semester.I hope you need the start the preparation from now itself.Coaching is the secondary thing you can opt for but the primary thing is self preparation from standard books.There are many advantages and disadvantages of coaching Institutes but if you can understand the subject in a nice manner then i don't think coaching is important.

But if you think your been lagging some where in the subject then coaching will definitely provide you with the back up.But,never rely too much on these Coaching Institutes.All you have to do is remember and noting down the important points which they teach you and trying to solve problems in a simple manner.You can only solve a problem in a simple manner all by yourself then it means that you have the ability to go through the GATE.

All that matters in GATE is the time factor.So,try to solve problems as soon as possible in GATE and you will definitely succeed in the examination.

there is many thing in the syllabus, comes from third semester itself...

you revise that one ...

It is very difficult to crack the exam in first attempt....

self preparation play an important role...

you try to give your first attempt this year itself....

concentrate well and prepare...

study atleast fours hours per day for GATE preparation....

if GATE is ur solo goal, do start the preparations as early as possible!


the preparations improve as u press on over time!

giving exam .

gate rank card is valid up tp 2 years.

If you have no problem with study of engg. then yoou start from coaching from 5th semester.

If you want answer of this question, then there is no need to know answer of this question, because, the preparation of GATE exam is not so easy according to you, because you said 5 th or 7th semester so dear concentrate on your whole subjects starting from your degree course,. because some one says "Perfect practice makes a man perfect"

GATE ( Graduate Aptitude Test In Engineering ) is the common entrance exam conducted All India wide for the young aspirants to pursue P.G ( M.Tech ) Program in India's Top Universities.

GATE exam is conducted by IISc ( Indian Institute Of Science ) and 7 IIT's together and every year the organizing committee is IIT Delhi.

GATE qualification is the minimum requirement for various scholarships awarded by different government Institutions.


YES dude you are eligible for GATE examination if you have completed your B.Tech in 2010 , as there is minimum of 3 chances for a candidate to appear GATE exam.

Eligibility :

Educational qualification :

1. You must be a Bachelor Degree holder in Engineering / Technology / Architecture or if are in final year of such program's.

2. You must be a Master Degree holder in Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Application or equivalent or if you are in final year of such program's also you can apply for GATE.

3. If you are in Second year of the 4 year Integrated Master Degree program also you can apply for GATE.

4. If you are in fourth year of the five year integrated Master degree program or Dual Degree in Engineering / Technology can apply for GATE.

5. If you qualified in any of the examinations conducted by Professional societies like UPSC , AICTE also you can apply for GATE.

What is the ideal time for starting preparation for IES exam?

According to me it is better to start preparation of GATE in 4th or 5th semester,because then more than half syllabus in GATE is covered during our academics.I am also giving a suggestion that it is better to join in GATE coaching in the 3rd year summer programme instead of enjoying the holidays.Then you can easily crack the exam.For GATE concentrate more on basics of core subjects.Get to know from which subjects more marks are comming in GATE ,so that you can concentrate more on that subjects.

With regard to GATE Exam,

It would be better for you to start the preparation for GATE Exam as early as possible. The reason why I am suggesting like this is,

The candidates who are pursuing final year of Engineering course can also apply for GATE Exam.

So, in your 7th semester itself, you can apply for GATE Exam and you can test your knowledge levels.

But I suggest you like don't take this opportunity for testing and take this as a challenge.

As you have completed 4th semester of your B.Tech course, you can start the preparation for GATE Exam now itself.

Make sure that you are going to complete the syllabus for GATE Exam by the time you join 4th year of Engineering course.

Try to get good score in the first attempt itself. This experience will be an added advantage for you when you actually attend for GATE Exam after completion of your B.Tech course.

There is no limit on the number of attempts for GATE Exam. So, you don't need to worry about this also.

Better to join in a Coaching Institute as they are going to provide the study material and preparation tips to crack GATE Exam.

Practice model question papers and previous year question papers for GATE Exam also.

GATE exam is one of the toughest exam in engineering discipline. Through this exam one may prefer to go for higher studies M.Tech or if the gate score is too good then you have a chance to go into PSU's job..

And the exam syllabus is very wide.. So it's better to start preparing while in 5th semester of your degree course.. But start your coaching when you are in 7th semester.. it will help you lot..
