Details about Stenographer work and salary structure? Is stenographer a government job?


What is actually stenographer do and what his work and what his salary per year and it is government job? Please advise me for my future. Thanking you.

# Today in the world of information technology and globalisation, scope of stenography is not decrease. Today, the scope of stenography is increased manifold.

# There is requirement of posts of steno-typist and stenographer almost in all the government departments as well as in private sector also.

# A newly selected stenographer is initially appointed as Steno-Typist. Thereafter he/she is promoted as Stenographer after few years of service and subsequently promoted as Assistant Private Secretary or Private Secretary.

# Required educational qualification for the post of Stenographer and Steno-typist:

* 10+2 in any stream for the post of steno-typist.
* Graduation in any stream for the post of stenographer.

# Required technical qualification for the post of stenographer and steno-typist:

* Must have completed the course in stenography from the recognised institute.
* Candidate applying for the post of steno-typist must have speed of 80 words per minute in shorthand.
* Candidate applying for the post of stenographer must have speed of 100 words per minute in shorthand.
* Candidate applying for the post of steno-typist must have computer typing speed of 40 words per minute.
* Candidate applying for the post of stenographer must have computer typing speed of 50 wors per minute.

# Desirable qualities expected from the aspirant:

* Sound knowledge of English language.
* Good communication skill.
* Pleasing personality
* Ability to work under tremendous pressure.
* Ability to take quick decision.
* Ability to work for longer hours.

# Pay scale of stenographer and steno-typist:

* 5200-20200 with grade pay of 2400 for steno-typist.
* 5200-20200 with grade pay of 2800 for stenographer.

# The major duties performed by the stenographer or steno-typist:

* Take dictation in shorthand and transcribe it to English/hindi language on computer/type-writer.
* Have to type and drafting the official letters/documents.
* Have to operate and take care of official machinery such as fax, scanner etc. and attending official phone calls.
* Have to directly interact with the visitors in office.
* Have to report the proceedings in meetings.

# Candidate who are pursuing the stenography course are advised to be more focused on following sections of shorthand language in order to perform well in shorthand language:

* Grammalogue
* Phraseography
* Should have to focus more on taking speedy dictation of shorthand language.
* Daily and regular practice of computer typing will help in achieving good typing speed.

WHAT IS THE GRADE PAY FOR SPECIAL GRADE JUNIOR STENOGRAPHER WORKING IN TAMIL NADU PUBLIC SECTOR UNDERTAKINGS.
