I am doing Bachelor of Arts in History Honours. I want to become an IAS Officer. It is my dream to join IAS and make my nation proud. Kindly tell me how to become an IAS Officer if I am from Arts side?

To be come Indian Administrative Service Officer you must face Civil Service Exam which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission. A candidate can apply for this exam only when he/she complete graduation from a recognized university in any faculty. Age must be between 21 years to 32 years. There are exams which you must clear with good marks. First go through Preliminary test, if clear that have to face written exam & last is interview. The candidates need to clear the Civil Services Examination conducted by the UPSC to become an IAS Officer. The all Indian combined competitive examination for civil service comprises of three parts. The part 1 is Preliminary Examinations, part 2 is Main Examination and part 3 is Interview. The candidate has to clear the preliminary examination first to appear for main examinations. The graduates in any discipline can appear for the civil services examinations. So you have to prepare well to clear the preliminary examination (CSAT). There are many coaching classes available for the civil services examinations, so you can join in any one of them to clear the civil services examinations.

For becoming an IAS officer you have to crack UPSC civil services exam. Only on the basis of merit you can get IAS officer post. You can apply for exam after completion of your arts degree.
There are three stages in civil services exam which are Preliminary, Main and Interview. You must perform excellently in these exams to become eligible for selection.

How to become an IAS Officer for Arts Candidates:

In order to become an IAS officer, the minimum educational qualification required is "Graduate Degree" or a Bachelor Degree from a recognized university.

It's good to see that you are interested to become a IAS officer. You need to qualify in the Civil Service examination conducted by the UPSC to become a IAS officer. The Civil Service examination will be held every twice in a year. One can get the Information regarding IAS entrance through official website of the UPSC. It is mandatory one should satisfy the eligibility criteria given below to appear in Civil Service exam.

Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification: Bachelor degree or its equivalent qualification is the minimum educational needed to be eligible for Civil Service examination.

Age Limit: The minimum age for admission shall be 21 years completed and must not be more than 32 years. Upper age limit is relaxation by 3 years in the case of OBC and 5 years for SC & ST candidates.

The selection will be based on the performance in the Preliminary Exam , Civil Service Aptitude Test and Interview.
