Re: Which is the best course to select for becoming IAS in future?
You can opt for any stream in Graduation if you are interested to become an IAS officer in future. It is best to opt for B.Tech course in Graduation degree to become an IAS officer in future. Upper age relaxation is applicable to reserved category candidates as per government rules as mentioned below :- --> OBC :- 3 Years --> SC/ST :- 5 Years 4. You must be Physically fit as per Physical standards mentioned in the UPSC IAS examination notification. Selection Procedure :- 1. Preliminary Examination 2. Mains Examination 3. Re: Which is the best course to select for becoming IAS in future?
You can pursue your graduation in any stream as per your choice, because candidates who have completed their graduation in any stream are eligible to apply for IAS exam. If you want my suggestion, I suggest you to take any Arts courses, because if you take any course in Arts stream, you will get more time to prepare for IAS exams. And, I suggest you, not to join in B.Tech courses, because you have dedicate more time to engineering subjects, if you choose B.Tech as your under-graduation course.
Eligibility criteria to appear for IAS exam:- 1. Candidate must be a citizen of India. 2. Candidate should have completed their graduation in any stream, from a recognised university. 3. candidates age must be between 21-30 years, whereas age relaxation is eligible for candidates, who belong to reserved categories. |

IAS officer looks after various things in his career. Know particular subject which is taken in graduation is the right fit for him. He needs to have a general idea about every subject that is going around in this world. To start with law or history will be the best options in graduation if your ultimate goal is to become an IAS officer. Even now a days IAS officers are mostly from Technology backgrounds. It really doesn’t matter from which background you are from in graduation. All it matters is you should be continously motivated to learn new things in life at a faster pace. Be it from Technology or medical or construction or infrastructure or share market or defence or aerospace or planetary science. Name it, you need to have basic knowledge on that. He who has such mindset and attitude towards subjects/education is the right fit for IAS officer post. Hope my insights will help you. |

Re: Which is the best course to select for becoming IAS in future?
The posts of IAS are filled up through the civil services examination conducted by the UPSC.
According to the eligibility criteria released by the UPSC : * The candidate should be a citizen of India. * The candidate should have completed graduation through any stream under the scheme of 10+2+3 at least form a recognized university. * The candidate should be of 21 years at least at the time of application. * The candidate should be physically and medically fit. So, no matter which graduation degree you pursue, you will be eligible for the CSE. Go for a course which really appeals you. |

Re: Which is the best course to select for becoming IAS in future?
If you are really serious about being an IAS Officer in future after completion of graduation then there are many options for graduation course but only one of those is enough good to prepare well for IAS examination because your course should not be a cause of disturbance in preparation for IAS examination and if you get admission in any course like engineering and other professional course then you would have to focus more on that course until completion and you can not easily prepare well for IAS examination so that you must go for the course mentioned below :
BA - Bachelor's of Arts : A candidate having BA degree can prepare well for IAS exam and there are some subjects which are useful to study in degree with preparation for IAS exam as well. You can take combination of any three subjects as per your choice in subjects - Economics/ Sociology/ History/ Geography/ Political Science/ Public Administration/ Literature subjects etc. and for your kind information, questions on these subjects are asked in examination why not take a course which is also useful in preparation so you can easily adjust your preparation. One more thing is there, when you will qualify prelims test and apply for mains exam then you will have to choose two subjects as per your choice in mains exam so you can choose any of the two subjects from your graduation and other than your graduation as well. BA course has no practicals and other tests in between the course that is why you will not have trouble of managing many things at the same time and with this course, your preparation for IAS exam will be eased and if you want then you can join any coaching because this can be managed easily in part time so choose this course and start preparation. I have listed some good coaching centers for IAS examination in India and you must join any one coaching at once and get advantage because if you get help from starting then it would really be better for you and your career : >> Vajiram and Ravi IAS Academy - Delhi >> Rao's IAS Coaching Center - Delhi >> Drishti IAS Academy - Delhi >> Lakshya IAS study Central Mumbai >> Shankar IAS Academy - Chennai >> Achiever IAS classes - Bangalore |

Nice to see your dedication and ambition to become a IAS officer. Ist I would like to mention here minimum educational qualification required to apply for Civil services exam conducted by UPSC is: Aspirant should have passed graduation in any stream from a recognized university/Institute. Only Indian nationals can apply for CSE exam to become IAS/IPS. As per the eligibility conditions I suggest you to go for a graduation degree in any subject of your interest rather than going for any professional engineering course as you mentioned you are from science non medical stream. You can go for BSc in any subject that you have interest. As you asked you can also go for arts subject, it is not required because science is your main stream that you have studied go for that. According to syllabus you need to study history and polity. Secondly I would like to mention paper pattern : 1. CSAT prelim (IAS preliminary exam) -IAS Preliminary Examination CSAT Paper - 1 (GS) -IAS Preliminary Examination CSAT Paper - 2 (APTITUDE) 2. IAS main examination Syllabus for CSAT paper 1 Paper I - (200 marks) Duration: Two hours · Current events of national and international importance. · History of India and Indian National Movement. · Indian andWorld Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World. · Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc. · Economic and Social Development -Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc. · General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialisation · General Science. IAS Preliminary Examination CSAT Paper - 2 (APTITUDE) Paper II- (200 marks) Duration: Two hours · Comprehension · Interpersonal skills including communication skills; · Logical reasoning and analytical ability · Decision-making and problem solving · General mental ability · Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level) · English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level). |
