Yes, you can do internship in Indian Railways being a 2nd year Engineering student. Even Indian Railways is a Automotive Industry, it is mostly depended on Electrical Department rather Mechanical department.
Apart from Indian Railways, if you get an internship in any other industry you can very well go for that because Indian Railways are always outdated. Even though it is outdated our Railways is strong.
Stipend will not provided by them, you have to give money either to get training or Project or Internship.
