I have passed my PG in english with 50% marks. I belong to OBC category. Can I do Ph.D in English from distance or correspondence mode in any university in India.

To pursue PhD, a candidate needs a minimum of 55% marks in Master's degree for general candidate and for a candidate who is other than general like OBC/SC/ST minimum marks required is 50% in Master's degree. As you belong to OBC category and also have the minimum percentage so you are eligible to pursue PhD in English.

I am sorry to say that you cannot do Ph.D in English after the completion of your Post Graduation course with only 50% of marks in it.

As per marks criteria, you are not eligible for Ph.D course in English in distance mode. There are no marks relaxation provided for OBC candidates.

Those candidates who have completed masters degree with above 55% marks from a recognized university are eligible for Ph.D entrance exam. For SC/ST candidate its 50% and above in masters degree.

There are no age criteria.
