Yes, of course you must appear in SLET or UGC NET entrance exam in order to get admission for PhD course. Applicants who would like to join the PhD course must have a Post Graduate degree in any background. The certification must be from a recognized University. Please, refer the SLET eligibility criteria,

State Level Eligibility Test (SLET), which is conducted by the every state Government separately. Those candidates who are interested to become a lecturer or want to join in PhD course can apply for this entrance exam.

Eligibility Criteria:

- Applicant must have Master Degree in any stream from a recognized university and final year applicants are eligible.
- Applicant must sore at least 55% percent marks in post graduation.
- Upto 5% relaxation will be given for reserved category (i.e) SC/ST.
- The age limit for Junior Research Fellowship is 28 years and there is 3 years relaxation for OBC and SC/ST are also eligible for relaxation of 5 years.
- There is no upper age limit for College Lectureship.

SLET exam is conducted for Lectureship Post so you can not apply for Ph.D course through SLET exam.

Those candidates who have completed masters degree from a recognized university with above 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST) are eligible for SLET exam.

There is no age criteria for SLET exam.
