Dear friend,

This exam is conducted by UPSC in onece time in year.

Those candiadte are graduate from any recognized university with any dicipline are eligible for IAS exam.

But your age should be in between 22 to 30 years old.Age relaxation is provide for SC/ST/OBC category as per govt rule.

The maximum attempts for SC/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.

Also you must be in citizen in India.

Optional subjects for IAS main exam:

Economics , Electrical Engineering,Geography, Geology ,History, Law,Management,Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science and International Relations, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology,Statistics, Zoology, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Anthropology,Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce and Accountancy.

You can choose the subject in sense of your strength .

For Civil Services Main examination a candidate is supposed to choose any two subjects
from the following.

Agriculture
Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
Anthropology
Botany
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Commerce and Accountancy
Economics
Electrical Engineering
Geography
Geology
History
Law
Management
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Medical Science
Philosophy
Physics
Political Science and International Relations
Psychology
Public Administration
Sociology
Statistics
Zoology

But following combinations of two optional subjects is not allowed.
- Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration;
- Commerce & Accountancy and Management;
- Anthropology and Sociology;
- Mathematics and Statistics;
- Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science.
- Management and Public Administration;
- Any two engineering subjects
- Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science.

As there is no subject related to Information Technology (IT) so it is seriously
difficult for you to choose the two subjects suitable for you and the same way
it is difficult for someone else to suggest you which subjects to take.

The simple process for choosing the two suitable subjects is as follows.
1. Choose those subjects in which you think you have some knowledge and
you can study that subject to the deeper.
2. Take advice from someone already preparing for Civil Services.
You should consult three-four such persons.

As you are an IT student I would suggest you to go for one science subject
(Physics/Maths) and one other subject (like; History, Geography, Public Admin,
Sociology etc.)
