hi friend,

It is true that one should give emphasis on subject selection, because sometime favourite subject wont give you much benefit. Suppose a person , did his graduation from biology+chemistry , I am quite sure he wont achieve his IAS rank by choosing these subjects since in IAS , questions related to higher studies in this field (as studied in MSc or PhD).

Like you have done your graduation in engineering , i would like to suggest you to choose the subject according to the subjective point of view , since from now IAS exam Prelim will not be based upon optional subject and your optional subject proficiency will be checked in Main exam into which subjective type of questions would come. So you may select subjects among the 23 subjects for main exam.

dear friend,

as you are engineering student so you have to focus on your subject first and then you have to choose the optional subject which you can easily remind and score high.do not take lenthy syllabus subjects, also keep in mind that as it is subjective examination so just remind it pointwise.

find syllabus from www.upsc.gov.in and choose from there.

good luck.

Since you are an engineering student belonging to EC branch , i guess you will find subjects like maths and physics easier with respect to other subjects.
but then it also depends on your interest. If u r interested in literature then u can go in for subjects like philosophy or history .
u would have found out the subject list by now...

so ..all the best ...!!
