Re: Optional subjects in the IAS preliminary exam
hi friend,
It is true that one should give emphasis on subject selection, because sometime favourite subject wont give you much benefit. Suppose a person , did his graduation from biology+chemistry , I am quite sure he wont achieve his IAS rank by choosing these subjects since in IAS , questions related to higher studies in this field (as studied in MSc or PhD). Like you have done your graduation in engineering , i would like to suggest you to choose the subject according to the subjective point of view , since from now IAS exam Prelim will not be based upon optional subject and your optional subject proficiency will be checked in Main exam into which subjective type of questions would come. So you may select subjects among the 23 subjects for main exam. http://www.civilserviceindia.com/subject/ |

as you are engineering student so you have to focus on your subject first and then you have to choose the optional subject which you can easily remind and score high.do not take lenthy syllabus subjects, also keep in mind that as it is subjective examination so just remind it pointwise. find syllabus from www.upsc.gov.in and choose from there. good luck. |

The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has approved the Union Public Service Commission to the Civil Services Examination from 2011. IAS (Indian Administrative Services) is basically for those aspiring candidates who have strong dedication towards the country. According to the new exam pattern of the IAS exam 1) General-Studies paper which carries 150 marks 2) Optional paper which carries 150 marks. The General Studies paper and one Optional paper both the papers are the compulsory paper. There are some Optional subjects such as : 1) Psychology 2) Commerce and Accountancy 3) History 4) Geography 5) Physics 6) Medical Science 7) Law 8) Mathematics 9) Mechanical Engineering 10) Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science 11) Public Administration 12) Agriculture 13) Sociology 14) Botany 15) Chemistry 16) Geology 17) Electrical Engineering 18) Civil Engineering 19) Economics 20) Philosophy 21) Zoology 22) Political Science 23) Statistics According to me, as you are from engineering branch so you may choose the following subjects like :- Public Administration, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering etc. For more latest update on IAS 2011 visit : http://www.iasexam2011.in/. Re: Optional subjects in the IAS preliminary exam
Since you are an engineering student belonging to EC branch , i guess you will find subjects like maths and physics easier with respect to other subjects.
but then it also depends on your interest. If u r interested in literature then u can go in for subjects like philosophy or history . u would have found out the subject list by now... so ..all the best ...!! |
