Education, research and excellence in patient care is the overall goal of the Orthopaedics department functioning under AIIMS and the department offers an integrated and comprehensive orthopaedic program for fellows, residents, students and patients. Apart from general orthopaedic surgery, the orthopaedics department of AIIMS, has a faculty that specializes in the fields like treatment of complex trauma, spine surgery, pediatric orthopaedics, musculoskeletal oncology, hand surgery, sports medicine and joint replacement. The recent innovations in orthopedic surgery like shoulder surgery, arthroscopic PCL, limb reimplatations, vascularized grafting for non-unions, minimally invasive spine surgery, knee and revision hip replacements, surface replacement arthroplasty and minimally invasive joint replacements are also performed by this department at AIIMS. Hospital services pertaining to physiotherapy, patient education, lab services, inpatient services and outpatient services are offered by the department.

Eligibility for getting into Ph. D in Orthopaedics course:

Candidates aiming at doing Ph. D in Orthopaedics will have to satisfy the following conditions for getting into the course:

PG Diploma or Degree/M. Ch in Orthopaedics or Orthoopaedical surgery from an institution recognized by the Medical Council of India

However, before obtaining the PG qualification in orthopaedics and related fields, candidates must have completed their MBBS from an MCI approved institution with at least 55% of marks.

Duration for Ph. D in Orthopaedics course:

Candidates complete ph. D in Orthopaedics course on submission of thesis and according to the norms of AIIMS thesis should be submitted by the medical professionals within five years from the date of registration to the Ph. D in Orthopaedics course.

Admissions:

Admission of appropriate candidates for Ph. D in Orthopaedics course offered by the AIIMS is done on the basis of merit secured by candidates in the Ph. D entrance test conducted by the institute. Candidates getting through the entrance examination, which will be of objective type with questions pertaining to Orthopaedical medicine, will be called for departmental evaluation, where in candidates skill will be evaluated by the professionals in Orthopaedics department of AIIMS. On satisfactory performance in the departmental evaluation, candidates will be offered with the offer letter for admission to the Ph. D in Orthopaedical surgery course.
