Senapati District is located in the northern part of the state of Manipur and the district is bounded by the Imphal West and Imphal East Districts on the south, Phek District of Nagaland to the north, Tamenglong District on the West and Ukhrul District on the east. The district was previous called as Manipur North District and the district came into existence with its previous name in the year 1969 with its headquarters as the city of Karong.

Later in the year 1976, the headquarters of the district was shifted to the city of Senapati. The district began functioning with its new name from the year 1983 on the 15th of July. The District is spread over an area of 3271 square kilometer and it has six subdivisions namely Saitu-Gamphazol, Saikul, Kangpokpi, Purul, Paomata and Mao-Maram.

Education in Senapati District:

The literacy rate of Senapati District is 45.11% and it has 377 primary schools, 51 high/higher secondary schools, 90 middle schools and three colleges. Of the three colleges functioning from the district, two colleges are private colleges and one college is government college. This single government college is offering education from a small village called as Motbung. Here is the name and some of the details about this government college:

As mentioned earlier, Motbung is a village in the district of Senapati and the village offers education through the college named Presidency College. This college is running under the control of Government of Manipur and it offers education in the faculties of arts, science and commerce. Even though, Senapati District has only one college under the control of Government of Manipur, it has two other private colleges and all these colleges collectively contribute towards the development of education scenario in the state of Manipur thereby offering great education opportunities to the local students.
