Udalguri District, which is otherwise spelled as Odalguri and the meaning of the term Odal in a tree and GURI means roots, surrounding, etc…, which means that a place surrounded by Udal tree. Udalguri was once a sub-division of the District of Darrang and now it is a newly created district functioning under Bodoland Autonomous Council.

The District of Udalguri has the city of Odalguri as its headquarters and it is spread over an area of 1852.16 square kilometers. The district has two sub-divisions, nine circles, 11 development blocks and 802 villages under its area and it is located at a distance of about 140 kms from capital city of the state of Assam.

When it comes to government colleges functioning in the district of Udalguri in Assam, the district has two colleges functioning under the control of Government of Assam and they are:

Udalguri College

Tangla College

These two colleges are offering education in the faculty of arts, science and commerce and some of the details regarding these two government colleges in Udalguri District are given below:

Udalguri College:

Udalguri College is a government institution established in the year 1979 and this college is offering arts and science education at the UG level with affiliation from the Gauhati University. Library at the college has a collection of more than 10350 books and college also offers several other infrastructural facilities to the staff members and students. The arts and science courses offered by the college are permanently affiliated to the Gauhati University and the college has so far produced very good results in the university examinations.

Tangla College:

Tangla College is another government institution established in the year 1970 and this college is offering arts, commerce and science education at the UG level with affiliation from the Gauhati University. Library at the college has a collection of more than 46000 books and college also offers several other infrastructural facilities to the staff members and students. The arts, commerce and science courses offered by the college are permanently affiliated to the Gauhati University and the college is served by experienced faculty members for offering the best coaching to the future citizens of the nation.

Thus, the district of Udalguri, which is bounded by the West Kameng District of the state of Arunachal Pradesh to the north, Baksa District to the West, Darrang District to the south and Sonitpur District to the east offer higher education through the afore-said two government colleges in an effective manner.
