Wokha District is located in the mid-western part of the state of Nagaland and the city of Wokha is the headquarters of the district. The district is bounded in the north by Mokokchung District, in the south by Kohimda District, in the east by Zunheboto district and in the west by the state of Assam.

The total area of the district is 1,628 square kms and the total population of the district according to the census conducted in the year 2001 was 1,61,098. When it comes to education in the district of Wokha in the Indian state of Nagaland, it has only one government college called as:

Mount Tiyi Government College

Mount Tiyi Government College:

Mount Tiyi Government College came into existence in the year 1974 as a private co-education institution with its name as Mount Tiyi College. The institute began its services to the field of education from a rented building and presently it is functioning from its own building. The college is located at about 1 km from the main city of Wokha and previously it was offering pre-university courses with affiliation from the North Eastern Hill University. It is presently offering degree courses with affiliation from the Nagaland University. The campus of the college is spread over an area of 12 acres of land. Right from its inception, it has been progressing considerably. Even though, the college began as pre-university college, it introduced degree courses in the faculty of arts in the year 1979 after which it was taken over by the Government of Nagaland in the year 1987. Presently, the college offers six main subjects at degree level with honors in English, political science and history. During the year 2009, the college introduced internet facility and it is planning to introduce EDUSAT for the students and lecturers shortly.

Thus, Mount Tiyi Government College is the only higher education institution in the district attracting students from the nearby districts as well. Among the 14 other colleges in the state of Nagaland, six colleges are government colleges of which Mount Tiyi Government College is a prominent higher education institution for candidates who wish to take up higher education in the faculty of arts. The college is also known for the best quality education thereby contributing towards the educational development of the state of Nagaland. Thus, scope of educational development in the district of Wokha is assured by the single government college functioning in this district.
