Visakhapatnam, shortly called as Vizag is the major port and the third largest city in the east coast of India, after the cities of Chennai and Kolkata.  The city holds the pride of being the second largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh and the city is regarded as a centre for education in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Medical College:

Andhra Medical College came into existence in the year 1923 and initially the college was started as a medical school and it was affiliated to the University of Madras and later after the establishment of NTR University of Health Sciences, the college came under the jurisdiction of this university. The college is offering MBBS and different PG courses in the field of medicine as well. For seeking admission to the MBBS course offered by the college candidates must clear the entrance examination conducted by the NTR University of Health Sciences.

Nursing College:

Government College of Nursing is also affiliated to the NTR University of Health Sciences and the college is offering Bachelor of Science in Nursing course. This course is approved by the Andhra Pradesh State Nursing Council and by the Indian Nursing Council.

Arts & Science Colleges:

A number of degree colleges are run by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in the city of Vizag and almost all these colleges are affiliated to the Andhra University. These colleges offer education in the fields of arts, science and commerce not only the UG level, but up to Ph. D level as well.

Polytechnic Colleges:

Three government polytechnic colleges are functioning in the city of Vizag and these colleges offer diploma courses in different disciplines like:

For seeking admission to these polytechnic colleges, candidates must have completed their SSLC examination with good percentage of marks in the science related subjects like physics, chemistry and biology.

In addition to the aforesaid government colleges, Vizag is acting as the home for a number of government-run junior colleges and these junior colleges offer education in the faculties of arts, science and commerce stream to candidates who have completed their SSLC class 10 examination.
