Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur
The university is located in Bilaspur in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. It was established as a central University by the State Legislative Assembly in the year 1983. The name on the university is given to honour the initiator of the Satnami movement started in this region, Guru Ghasidas. It is an affiliating and residential university with jurisdiction covering across the Revenue Division of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. The university is a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities and Association of Indian University. It has been accredited as B+ University by NAAC, which is, the national Assessment and accreditation Council.
The university has 2 campuses. One of them is present at Bilaspur and the other is established at Ambikapur.
The university covers almost all the aspects of the requirements of education and higher education of the local people. There are University Teaching Department, abbreviated as, UTD in the campuses. It has 125 affiliated colleges. Various divisions or faculties are made in the university conducting different courses. The various faculties of the university include faculty of engineering, arts, sciences, social sciences, management, life sciences, commerce etc. The different courses offered by the University includes education, Commerce, Arts, Engineering and Technology, Management, Life Science, Pharmacy, Social Sciences, Law, Humanities etc.
The university has a computer centre with system having latest configurations, hardware setup and software installations in order to keep its students up to date in the field of computer technologies. The campus library was established in 1983 with books, journals etc serving as a source of knowledge. It has a woman’s studies and development centre with an aim to spread the awareness and understanding of gender equality. The university has also established 3 units of NSS, National Service Scheme. Separate hostels for boys and girls are provided with basic facilities. Post office, bank and health facilities are also provided within the campus of the university.
