Pondicherry University came into existence in the year 1985. It is actually a central university which comes under the administrative control of Government of India. The university is located at Pondicherry with Mr. Mohammed Hamid Ansari is on the position of Chancellor in the university. Professor Jalees Ahmed Khan Tareen is the current Vice Chancellor of the university. Approximatley 25 thousand students are studying in the university.
