The esteemed engineering college of Indian Institute of Technology is located in the beautiful city of Kharagpur, West Bengal. The college is one of the many IIT’s that have been established in India by the Government. The college was established in 1951 as an autonomous Institute under the banner of Government of India.
Campus:
The institute’s campus is spread over an area of 8.5 square kilometers that covers an over all area of 2100 acres which has total inhabitants strength of 20,000. The college campus houses different civic amenities laden areas.
Courses Offered:
The college offers different engineering streams, such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Cryogenic Engineering, Agriculture and Food Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and many such other courses.
Seats:
The college has various seats for different category of candidates. The college has reserved seats for certain type of candidates. There are 15% of the total seats reserved for scheduled castes, 7.5% of the total seats for scheduled tribes and as on the year 2008 and 27% of the total seats for other backward castes. At present the institute has around 7000 students and nearly 500 faculty members.
Off beats courses offered:
The college is amongst the first that offers the course of Architecture. The college offers masters level degree in Business Management course. It also offers different masters degree such as in Medical Science and Technology, Maritime Operation and management and Master of City Planning.
The college therefore is considered as one of the most esteemed Institutes that produced some of the best candidates who have created global impact.
