Technology is driving positive outcomes in the field of education in the country. It is changing the learning experience of the students by making it more interesting and interactive. The major contributions of technology are audio-video equipments and applications and video conferencing. Such contributions have made the process of teaching and learning more effective with emphasis on practical learning, rather than just text book learning. The Indian education system is well known for its rote learning and now technology is going to change the outlook of our education system. Adoption of technology in classrooms has increased the scale of research in class rooms and transfer of knowledge between students.

Technology to transform education

Many education institutions in India have started to provide technological tools and electronic equipments to transform the process of learning. Such initiatives will certainly improve the learning outcomes of the students. It is now observed that students have started to consider the technological capabilities of institutions while selecting them for their studies. Students have now begun to realize the importance of technology in process of learning and the benefits of such a learning process.

What the students feels?

Students are of the opinion that technology helps in increasing their information base on different subjects and this has lead to improved performance in examinations. With the help of technology such as internet, they are now able to understand what other students across the world are studying. Students are even able compare the foreign syllabus with their own, which helps them improve their knowledge base. The internet technology has made it easy to find and access information required by the students and has made the process of information collection smooth.

Technology developing a common platform

The modern day information world is on its way to a social learning hub and virtual classrooms. This helps to connect and cooperate with different locations and thus developing a common platform to exchange ideas and thus make the process of learning effective. In India, most of the schools are run by the government and the condition in such schools is same as that of a government office. Introducing technology in such government run education institutions need committed government officials, which is hard to find in a country like India. The government schools in the country are far behind in adopting technology.

Technology adoption more in private schools

In the case of private schools, the situation is different which can be referred to as good examples of technology adoption. The Central Board of Secondary Education has directed the head of institutions which are affiliated to the board to equip at least one classroom for each class to offer students’ technology based learning experience. The move by the CBSE can be considered as a positive beginning as it is the first step towards digital information.

Shift from rote to technology based learning

The shift from rote learning to technology based education is visible across the country. Students in colleges have started to use laptops and internet for their day to day learning. The academicians are of the opinion that technology has brought about a huge shift in the education in the country and they are optimistic that rote learning will fade away with in a few years. A few years back, students and teachers in India were not even aware of online education and now it has become a necessary element in education. The gaining popularity of online education indicates that it has been welcomed by the education community in the country.

Quality of content is important

We have a large population of young people it is necessary to give them the right kind of education so that they can build a better India in the future. In online education, the quality of education remains the top most priority and development of meaningful content is also important. The most important challenge in the field of online education is the authenticity of the content available online. Since the content can be developed and uploaded by anyone from any country, irrespective of their competency, it is important to determine the authenticity of the information available on the internet.

Technology improves the overall efficiency

Developing a technology driven education system is not easy, but it offers benefits which any other system cannot offer for the time being. The government is looking forward to improve the quality of education in the country and there is a long way to go in terms of modernization of the education. The adoption of the technology not only helps the students, but also the teachers and thus the overall efficiency of the education in the country will be improved to a greater extend.

Creativity gaining importance in education

The adoption of technology in education will make the students interested in learning and thus will help in making them creative. Creativity helps in bringing out new ideas and to solve complex problems that might arise at work or life. With internet, the world is just a click away and will help the students to find what they need for learning. Within a few years the textbooks and notebooks will be completely replaced by laptops and projectors.

Expanding the boundaries of knowledge

Since the students are open to huge world of knowledge, the teachers must expand the boundaries of their knowledge as the students can come up with doubts from any area. It is even possible for the parents to determine whether what their children learn is right or wrong.

Staying connected with the developments

There is an increased need for education institutions both in the primary and higher education areas to adopt technology in their campuses as they cannot be separated from what is happening in the globalised world. They should overcome any resistance for the adoption of technology, if any, for a better future for the generations to come.

However technology cannot replace teachers as the former is just an assistance. Technology cannot provide practical knowledge a teacher can provide, but can improve the outcome by making the process of learning effective.
