The aim of the ISC physics curriculum is to make the students acquire the knowledge of the concepts, facts, terms, definitions, principles, laws and processes in physics. The students are enabled to apply the understanding of the subject to situations which are unfamiliar to them. By this course the students are able to develop a scientific attitude and skills in handling instruments, doing observations, drawing graphs and diagrams etc.

The pattern of the examination is given below:

The exam consists of two papers. Paper I is a theory paper, carrying 70 marks and duration of 3 hours. Paper II consists of practical, project work, and practical file. Practical carries 20 marks, project work carries 7 marks and file carries 3 marks.

Paper I is divided in twp parts.

Part I carries 20 marks and consists of short answer type questions which are all compulsory. These questions cover the entire syllabus.

Part II carries 50 marks. This part is subdivided in three sections. Section A has three questions, each carrying nine marks. The candidates have to answer any two. In section B also out of three two questions are to be answered. Each of these carries 8 marks. Same is for Section C.
