A job in Karnataka Public Service Commission is a dream that many nurture. Those who aspire to get there have a chance to accomplish their dream when KPSC conduct exams to the various posts within it. According to the rules, a candidate has to answer four compulsory papers and two additional papers. The elective papers can be selected by the candidates from a list of 12 papers. Sociology is one of the 12 elective papers.

Type of questions

The questions in the paper will be regarding all fields of sociology. It will include questions from Indian as well as world sociology. Importance is given to political sociology of Karnataka and the candidates have to ensure to give importance to that area when preparing for the exam.

Setting of question paper

To facilitate readability, the paper is printed in both English and Kannada. This will help the students who have difficulty in understanding English. The paper consists of four parts A, B, C and D. The first three sections are compulsory. All the questions within these sections have to be answered. From the last section three need to be answered from the available five questions. None of the questions are divided into sub questions. The paper does not contain any MCQ and is descriptive.

Marks required for passing

The sum of the marks of each in the paper amounts to 300. To be selected, a candidate has to score a minimum of 35%. Of the 300 marks, 20 are from section A, 100 from B and 90 each from C and D. Three hours is the time allotted including reading time for answering all the questions.
