Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth located at Akola in the state of Maharashtra and it was established in the year 1969 on the 20th of October. The university was given this name in honor of Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh, who belonged to Vidarbha and worked as Government of India’s Agriculture Minister. The university’s jurisdiction is spread over eleven districts, it is given the responsibility of offering agricultural education, conducting extension, and research activities apart from carrying out foundation and breeder seed program. The main campus of the university is located at Akola and at this campus doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees are offered under the faculties of agriculture engineering and agriculture. The main campus includes five constituent colleges and another sub-campus at Nagpur is having one constituent colleges. As mentioned earlier, Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth is offering education under two faculties, eleven departments are functioning under the faculty of agriculture while six faculties are functioning under the faculty of agriculture engineering & technology making a total of seventeen departments under the university. In addition to the five constituent colleges in the main campus of the university, a central research station is also functioning and this caters to the requirement of research projects undertaken by the crop scientists dealing with major crops like pulses, oil seeds, Sorghum and cotton. The Nagpur campus of the university is accomplished by well-established zoo, natural beauty and garden thereby attracting visitors to the city.
