Gulbarga University came into existence in the year 1980, the university is offering education through different departments, and affiliated colleges spread over the districts of Koppal, Bellary, Raichur, Bidar and Gulbarga.

The university actually came into existence in the year 1970 as a postgraduate centre of Karnatak University located at Dharwad.
