Telengana University came into existence in the year 2006 to meet the educational requirements of the people of three districts of the state of AP, namely Adilabad, Medak and Nizamabad, which are backward districts. When the university came into existence in the year 2006, it began its operations with just six courses with an intake capacity of 28 students for each of the courses. After this, the university introduced several other courses in the academic year 2007 and 2008, therefore, the university is presently offering nearly 20 courses.

The university is also planning to introduce some courses through distance education mode so as to help the rural youth and people who are not in a position to attend regular colleges for one reason or another. The university is presently offering educational courses in the faculties of law, computer science, business management, science, commerce, social science and arts. Telegana University is adopting Semester pattern of examination with 90 instructional days for each semester. The semester coming in the month of July to November is called as odd semester and December to May is called as even semester. The university is following instructional methods like project work, field training/study, symposia, seminars, guest lectures, classroom interactions and traditional lecture method. The university has its own constituent college called as University College and this college is located in Bhiknoor.

Admission of students to the different courses offered by the university are done on the basis of the OU/TUCET Common Entrance Test conducted by Osmania University. Out of the total seats, 85% of the seats are reserved for local candidates belonging to the districts of Adilabad and Nizambad. The university is offering the best education thereby contributing towards the educational development of not only the local districts, but also to the whole state of Andhra Pradesh.
