Kakatiya University was established in the year 1976 on 19th of August mainly for the purpose of meeting the higher education objective of Telangana people. Kakatiya University was formerly the post-graduation centre of Osmania University. Since its inception, the university has made gradual improvement and it was awarded ‘B+’ grade in the year 2002 by NAAC. The university is situated over a wide area of 650 acres and is offering programs in commerce, arts, science, education, business management, computer science, law, pharmacy and engineering. The university is also offering a number of courses through distance mode through the School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education.

Various funding agencies are helping University for carrying out research activities. Botany department, chemistry department and pharmacy department of the university has been identified under FIST by the Department of Science and Technology situated at New Delhi while the departments like public administration, Telegu, Economics, Pharmacy, Botany and Chemistry are supported by University Grants Commission under its SAP and DRS. For all round personality development of the students, the university has established Gymnasium, Yoga centre, indoor games complex, placement cell, student welfare centre, SC/ST Coaching centre, NET Coaching centre for SC/ST Students and Centre for English Language Training as well. The students of the university has gained a number of awards in national level competitions, particularly, the university has won All India Inter-University Gymnastic Championship continuously for three years. The university has entered into MOU with Central Michigan University of the USA with a view to develop programs like faculty exchange, research and education. Basically, the university was established as a post-graduate college in the year 1967 with just 4 departments and now it has reached higher heights. The university is offering post-graduation and under-graduation courses in B. Tech courses in Mining, EEE, CSE and is offering MBA and MCA courses as well.
