The synchronized movement of the body in accordance to the rhythm of music is called as Dancing. It generally uses a variety of ‘Mudras’ (gestures) and ‘Bhavas’ (expressions) to explain the story that is being performed. There are many dance forms available in India as well as overseas. Aspirants who would like to learn dancing are required to start training at the early age of 5 or 6 years. By the age of 14 or 15 years, the student will have all the basic training required. Following the completion of class 10+2, the aspirant can go for professional training in a field of their choice. They are required to appear in an exam set by these colleges. They are noted below.

  • Shivaji University- Faculty of Arts & Faculty of Social Sciences Entrance Exam

Courses in Dancing

Diploma

  • Diploma in Classical Dance
  • Diploma in Dance (Kathak)
  • Junior Diploma in Dance

Eligibility Criteria

It is possible for students to join this course after finishing their class 10+2.

Graduation Programme

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts – Dance
  • B.A Bharatnatyam
  • B.A. Dance in Bharathanattyam and Mohiniyattam
  • BA in Contemporary Classical Dance Forms

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants are supposed to have cleared their class 12.

Postgraduation Programme

  • Master in Dance – Bharatnatyam or Kathak
  • MA in Classical Indian Dance Forms
  • Master of Arts in Bharatnatyam
  • Master of Performing Art – Bharatnatyam
  • M.A. in Angika Lok Natya

Eligibility Criteria

For joining the postgraduate level courses, graduation in the related subject is obligatory.

Career Prospects

Students who have finished their course in this subject can find jobs as a choreographer, an instructor or as a solo performer. It is also possible for students to carry out workshops on the Indian dance forms. As there is a huge demand for Indian classical dance globally, they can find with leading dance companies or troupes. Another option for the students is to begin their own dance schools. Professionals can earn as much as Rs.100, 000 each month. The remuneration of the students will differ on the basis of their field of specialty and the type of the company that hires them.
