Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramoday University, Chitrakoot, is popular by the status of being The First Rural University of our country. This university is christened after the father of the nation Shri Mahatma Gandhi on the land which is famous to be associated with Lord Ram. It’s an autonomous which is known to provide prospects of higher education in the population residing in rural areas. It is university with teaching, learning cum affiliating capabilities. MGCGV was founded in the year 1991 on 12th Feb. this university is entitled of realizing the Gandhiji’s dream of rural development as well as to create future enlightened citizenry.
Situated on the holy banks of river Mandakini, this university is located in the Chitrakoot district, Satna, in Madhya Pradesh. It is known for its dissemination of the appropriate technology and to provide higher education facilities to the rural population. Various technologies are developed and extensive researches are conducted for proper management of the vital rural resources and also to monitor their rural livelihood. Through the development of innovative models of higher education that promote the importance of agriculture along with running education system, this university serves its prime objective of transformation of rural areas and empowerment of these people.
MGCGV is a multidisciplinary body which offers various academic courses in all spheres of education including graduate programs, postgraduate programs and doctorate courses. Disciplines which are covered include agricultural engineering agriculture and animal sciences, applied sciences, environment, GIS and remote sensing, food technology, information technology, languages and fine arts amongst others. There are distance education programs for those who are unable to make at the regular level at various centers located in state. This university also undertakes the responsibility of monitoring as well as evaluation of different state-level and national development programs.
