LLM or Master of Law is a postgraduate degree awarded to law students who have completed 2 years of higher studies after law graduation. It is a two year program with four semesters. The LLM course is recognized by UGC. In India for practicing as a lawyer LLM is not required. The course is introduced to make the law graduate to have specialization in their interested areas. The major areas of specialization includes Family law, Taxation Law, constitutional law etc. In India there are many universities/institution which offers Master of Laws for students.

Eligibility Criteria for LLM

LLM is only meant for the Graduates in Law. The students who successfully completed their LLB course are eligible to apply for the course. In India, the course can also be pursued through distance learning mode too. Even the practicing lawyers can opt for the course through distance learning. There is no age restriction set for taking up the course.

Admission Procedure for LLM

Most of the universities/institution carries out an entrance exam for the admission process of LLM. The students can purchase the admission form from the sales counter of respective universities/institutions. They can also send a request by post to the concerned authority. The third option is to download the application forms from the official website. The price of the application form varies according to the institutes. They can be in the range of Rs.500-2500/-. The qualified students from the entrance exam will called for final set of selection process.

How to fill in LLM Entrance Application form

The students are given an option of offline and online modes for filling the application form. Those who are opting for the online mode should go to the respective site and fill the form with the given instructions. If the candidates are applying through offline method then, they have to fill the form correctly and send to the authority with the needed formalities and the DD. LLM course curriculum

The LLM course in India is designed to be four semesters with total credit of 72. The whole program is divided into core courses and elective courses. What to do after LLM?

After the LLM course one can go for practicing law as a profession and also go for even higher studies. After completing LLM with the license form BCI on can do legal practice in India. They can also be able to join judicial services by taking the exams conducted by PSC. One can also work independently as a consultant or with the private sector.

Salaries of an LLM graduate can vary according to the experience, industry, and Client and job type. They can work in private as well as public sector.
