M. Pharm (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) is supposed to be one of the important branches of Pharmacy. It is a two-year full time course. While pursuing this course, the student will learn   learn basic pharmaceutical chemistry, organic chemistry, basic pharmaceutics and pharmacology, pharmaceutical technology, advance pharmaceutical chemistry, basic physiology and pharmacognosy etc.

Eligibility criteria

The student aspiring for this course needs to have completed a B.Pharm or an equivalent degree. Some colleges also have an entrance exam for the same. Prior experience in the field will also be a value addition for those applying to this course.

Course Outlook

It is a two year intensive full time course combing a lot of theory, practical work and internal assessments. The theory paper is usually of three hours while the practical one is of six hours. The course syllabus varies across the four semesters of the subject.

Job Prospects

After the successful completion of the course, the options of doctorate level study for the interested students are still open.  A student can work as a pharmaceutical chemist in the government or any private organization in the field of pharmaceuticals. One can also apply abroad for work.
