Difference between M.Pharm and MBA (Pharmaceutical)


M.Pharm and MBA (Pharmaceuticals) are the two post graduation course in pharmacy. Both of them have the duration of two years. M.Pharm course focuses on the core subjects in pharmacy. Several types of M.Pharm courses are available on different areas of Pharmacy. MBA (Pharmaceutical) is a management course which focuses on the management of pharmaceutical industry. M.Pharm course is for the candidates who want to widen their knowledge in different areas of pharmacy. Those who wish to pursue a management career in the field of pharmacy can choose MBA (Pharmaceutical) course.

M.Pharm and its Opportunities

Several types of jobs are available for the M.Pharm graduates in the pharmaceutical industry. Some of the job profiles in this industry are clinical executive, medical coding trainee and pharmacists. There are also ample job opportunities available for them in food processing industries. They can work in quality control section of various food processing industries for designing, developing and implementing several quality standards. They can also work in various research and development organizations as project assistant or scientist.  Post graduates in Pharmacy can work as professors in various pharmacy institutes with lucrative salary.

MBA (Pharmaceutical) and its Opportunities

Like any other industry, pharmaceutical industry also need management expert for marketing their products effectively. Thus the candidates having MBA degree in Pharmaceuticals can find lot of career opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry.

Various pharmaceutical companies which recruits MBA graduates are Divis, Ranbaxy, Matrix, Dr.Reddy’s, Aurobindho, Sunpharma and Cipla. Apart from looking for manager jobs, they can also work as lecturers in any institution which offers management courses in pharmacy.

Key differences between M.Pharm and MBA (Pharmaceutical)

  • M.Pharm is a major course in pharmacy. It covers the important aspects in pharmacy. Eligibility to join this course is bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.
  • MBA (Pharmaceuticals) is a management course in pharmacy. It only focuses on the administration of pharmaceutical industries. Graduates in any stream can join this course.

Even though both courses focus on the field of pharmacy, each of them deals with various aspects of Pharmacy. Candidates who have completed M.Pharm course can work in the core areas of pharmacy while those have completed MBA can only work in the managerial area of pharmacy. It is better to choose M.Pharm, if the candidates are interested in the research field.
