Music Teacher – How to become a Music Teacher?
Music Teachers are responsible for giving training to the students for developing their skills in singing and instrument playing. They give music lessons for the students each day and evaluate their progress. They organize the musical performance of the students and prepare them for various musical competitions. Thus Music Teachers plays a crucial role in finding extraordinary talents in music.
Qualifying Exam
Those who want to work as a Music Teacher in any secondary school should obtain Master of Arts degree in Music. Candidates who have obtained Bachelor of Arts degree in Music followed by two year diploma or certificate course in Music are also eligible to apply for the post of Music Teacher in these schools. Bachelor of Arts degree in Music is enough to teach in upper primary or primary schools. Those who want to teach in primary or upper primary schools should qualify the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by the concerned government. If they want to teach in secondary schools, then they should qualify the State Eligibility Test (SET) conducted by the respective state government.
Who are eligible to apply?
Candidates who want to pursue Bachelors of Arts degree in Music should have passed plus two or its equivalent examination in any stream. Such candidates must have represented the concerned institution in state level or national level cultural activities regarding music. After completing Bachelor of Arts degree one can pursue either diploma course or post graduate course in music. They can also pursue any certification course in music. Those who want to pursue post graduate course should qualify the entrance test conducted by the concerned authority. Candidates can teach in secondary school, if they possess any of these qualifications after completing Bachelors of Arts degree in Music. They also need to qualify the SET exam to teach in secondary schools. For that they need B.Ed degree. Candidates who have completed intermediate or diploma in elementary education and graduation are eligible to apply for CTET. Those who possess B.Ed degree are also eligible to apply for the same.
