The National Eligibility Test is held by the University Grants Commission. The test is held twice every year, in the months of June and December. This test is the eligibility exam for lectureship and JRF or Junior Research Fellowship. The exam is held on various subjects, but for certain science subjects CSIR holds the exam jointly with UGC and the exam is known as CSIR-UGC NET.  Philosophy is one of the subjects in UGC-NET.  There are two papers on the subject. Paper II is an objective type test, while paper III is a subjective test. The pattern of paper II has been given in details below.

The exam of paper II of philosophy is of 1 hour and 15 minutes time duration. The maximum marks carried by the exam are 100. There are 50 questions in the paper. All the questions are of equal marks and carry 2 marks each. The questions are all multiple choice types. Four alternative answers are given out of which a single answer is correct. Students have to mark their answers in the OMR answer sheet provided. Multiple answers are treated as wrong answers.
