In Indian Police Services an Assistant Sub Inspector shortly called as ASI is a non-gazetted Officer of Police with a rank above the head constable of police and below the sub-inspector. The badge for an Assistant Sub Inspector contains one star with blue and red striped ribbon at the outer edge of the shoulder straps.

In India Sub Inspectors are offered with a pay scale of Rs. 9300-34800, while the Assistant Sub Inspectors are offered with a pay scale of Rs. 5200-20200 plus a grade pay of Rs. 2800. Sub inspectors are appointed for different departments in police like technical, stenographer, pharmacist, etc…and the same pay scale is offered for sub inspectors belonging to all these departments.

Educational Qualification:

The educational qualification requirement for the position of Assistant Sub Inspector differs according to the department for which they are selected. For instance, for an assistant sub inspector appointed for the position of Stenographer, the educational qualification required is that candidates must have completed their 10+2 with shorthand proficiency and typing proficiency with a speed of 80 words per minute and 40 words per minute respectively. In another case, where sub-inspector was recruited for the field of pharmacy, required that candidates must have completed their Diploma in Pharmacy from an institution approved by Pharmacy Council India after completion of their matriculation examination. However, in the case of general Assistant Sub-inspector position, candidates must be graduates in any discipline from a recognized university.

Age requirement:

The minimum age requirement to apply for the position of assistant sub inspector is 18 years, while the maximum age limit is 25 years; however, some organizations specify the maximum age limit as 30 years for the candidates to be able to apply for the position of Assistant Sub Inspector.
