Ph.D in VMOU – Eligibility and Admission Process

Candidates having obtained at least 55% marks in master’s degree and 50% marks in bachelor’s degree are eligible for Ph.D course in Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University (VMOU). Admission process is done on the basis of an entrance test and interview conducted by the university. Written test is conducted for 100 marks and interview for 50 marks. In order to get through the screening process, candidates should obtain at least 50% marks in written test and 45% marks in interview.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D in VMOU

Candidates having obtained at least 55% marks in master’s degree from any of the universities/institutions recognized by UGC/AICTE/NCTE are eligible for admission. Such candidates must have obtained at least 50% marks in bachelor’s degree. Five percent relaxation in marks is given for candidates belonging to reserved category.

Admission Procedure for Ph.D in VMOU

Admission process is done on the basis of an entrance test and interview conducted by the university. Written test is conducted for 100 marks and interview for 50 marks. Duration of the test is 3 hours. The entrance test is conducted in the following subjects.

  • Botany
  • Commerce
  • Economics
  • Education
  • English
  • Hindi
  • History
  • Library and Information Science
  • Management
  • Political Science
  • Public Administration

Candidates can appear for the test studied at post graduation only. There will be two parts for the entrance test, Part I and Part II. Part I include 40 questions for 40 marks. Syllabus for Part I is based on the following topics.

  • General Knowledge of Indian Higher Education System
  • General Research Aptitude
  • Information and Communication Technology Awareness
  • Language Comprehension and vocabulary
  • Latest trends in Indian Higher Education System
  • Methods of Research
  • Professional/ Technical and General Education
  • Research ethics

Questions from Part II are asked for 60 marks. Part II for the test is subject-specific and questions are asked in the following format.

  • Objective model questions – 15 numbers
  • Short Answer Questions – 10 numbers
  • Long Answer Questions – 4 numbers

Out of the 10 short answer type questions, candidates need to answer only 5 and out of the 4 long answer type questions, they should answer only 2. In order to get through the screening process, candidates should obtain at least 50% marks in written test and 45% marks in interview. A weightage of 10 marks will be given for the following candidates who have qualified the entrance exam.

  • Candidates with a valid score in UGC/CSIR NET (JRF) /SET/GATE/Teacher Research Fellowship
  • M.Phil holders from any of the recognized university with a minimum of 65% marks
  • University/College Teacher who is appointed by RPSC/equivalent. They should be working in UGC scale and should have a minimum of five years teaching experience on regular basis.
