New Mangalore Port Trust came into existence as a government sector organisation. The trust has the strength of approximatley 25 hundred employee. The trust operates the deep water and all weather port at Panambur, Karnataka. It is the ninth largest port present in the country. The port was inaugurated by Late Indira Gandhi on may 4, 1974. The port serves two states Karnataka and Kerala. Crude and petroleum products, Timber logs, Phosporic Acid are some of the major imports of the New Mangalore Port Trust. The trust is also engaged in the construction of berth in the western dock arm.
