Profile:

India Meteorological Department was incorporated under the Government of India. The department was initially established as an Government organisation which is mainly responsible for making the meteorological observations, detection of earthquakes and weather forecasts in India. Forecasting of the tropical cyclones in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal is one other major function performed by Indian Meteorological Department. The department has earned several acccloades and reputation for its work in the field of forecasting weather reports in country.

Job Profile:

Vacant posts of Research Scientist, Research Associate-I, Research Associate-II, Research Associate-III and Junior Research Fellow are to be filled up eligible candidates in India Meteorological Department. The engagement or recruitment of the candidates will be purely on contract basis. Selected candidates will have to work on four different ongoing projects of the department with the name of Archival and digitization of seismic analog charts, Upgradation of Hydromet Services, Metropolitan Weather Information and Forecast System for NCR of Delhi, Improvement of Space Meteorology and Continuance of Earthquake Risk Evaluation Centre.

Eligibility:

The eligibility conditions are strictly need to be followed by the candidates, who are applying on the specified posts in India Meteorological Department. Candidates should have age in between the prescribed age limit set for the posts.

Educational Qualification:

M.Sc. or M.E. or M.Tech in Geophysics/Computer Science from any recognized university with atleast 60% marks in aggregate is required for the post of Research Scientist. Also atleast one year of experience in signal processing or quality assurance in the areas of Geophysics or siesmology is required. Candidates who are applying for the posts of Research Scientits should possess the Ph.D. degree from recognized university. For the post of Junior Research Fellow, the minimum educational qualification required is Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science. Candidates are required to be NET qualified as well.

Pay Scale:

Research Scientist: Consolidated pay of Rs. 35000 per month.
Research Associate-I: Consolidated pay of Rs. 22000 per month.
Research Associate-II: Consolidated pay of Rs. 23000 per month.
Research Associate-III: Consolidated pay of Rs. 24000 per month.
Junior Research Fellow: Consolidated pay of Rs. 16000 per month.

Selection Process:

Appointment of candidates on the desired posts will be made through the conduct of Walk-In-Interview. The walk-in-interview will be held on 28 January 2011 from 9:30 Am onwards. Candidates having any kind of experience in the relavnt field will get preference at the time of final selections.
