Ministry of Earth Sciences came into existence in the year 2006 and this company was established from the Ministry of Ocean Development, Earth Risk Evaluation Centre, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting and Indian Meteorological Department.

The ministry is provided with the responsibility of providing the country with the best possible services pertaining to tsunamis, earthquakes, ocean state, climate/weather parameters and monsoons.
