MACS-Agharkar Research Institute stands for Maharashtra Association for the Cultivation of Science, Agharkar Research Institute. The institute was established as an autonomous research institute under the department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The institute was renamed to Agharkar Research Institute in the year 1992 after its founder, late Professor S.P. Agharkar. The institute is considered as one of the famous science reference libraries in the field of Biological Sciences.
