The Tamil Nadu Open University was established to provide educational opportunities to those who cannot do any course on regular basis. The university was set up on the lines of IGNOU. It offers a wide range of courses which include graduate, postgraduate and diploma courses in a variety of streams. All these courses are recognized by UGC. The University also provides a degree course in Commerce stream (B. Com). The course is of duration of three hours.

The eligibility for the course is minimum 10+2 or equivalent. Candidates who do not fulfill this criterion can also do the course provided they have attained the age of 18 years. They are required to join the Bachelor Preparatory Programme.

The pattern of the term end examination is given below:

The duration of the exam is three hours and the maximum marks are 75. The paper consists of two sections. Section A consists of 5 questions of which 3 need to be answered. Each question carries 5 marks. Section B consists of 7 questions of which 4 are to be answered. Each question carries 15 marks. So a total of 10 questions is to be answered, and the maximum marks are 75 ((3X5) + (4X15))
