UPSC conducts civil services examination 2 times in a year to select candidates for the reputed IAS & IPS services as gazetted officers. The exam is highly competitive and Gujarati is one of the optional language subjects in the main examination. In optional languages there are list of different regional Indian languages and students can select any language of their choice.  

Qualification for appearing in this exam:

Indian citizens are only eligible to appear for this exam. He/She should have graduation degree in any discipline from any recognised institution/university. Candidate in the final year can also apply, but they have to produce the passing certificate at the time of the interview. Age limit for the examination is 21-30 years for general students, however there are relaxation in age for SC/ST candidates.

Scoring and Negative Marking:

Paper contains long answer type questions, so there is no negative marking for wrong answer. Questions are generally divided into 2-4 sub-questions and scoring marks in the paper depend on the content of answer.

Mode of Exam:

Paper is a conventional one and questions asked are needed to be answered on answer sheet.

Format:

Paper is of subjective questions. All questions are of theoretical type.

Paper Pattern:

Questions asked are of long answer type, there are 8 questions from which 5 are needed to be answered and these questions are separated into 2 sections. From each section, question no. 1 is compulsory to be attempted. Remaining 3 are to be solved from rest 6 taking at-least one from each section.

Marking:

Paper is of 300 marks where each question is of 60 marks.

Schedule:

Time span is 3 hours only.
