About the university:

Mumbai University is one of the best universities in India imparting education in various fields along with engineering. The engineering course under Mumbai University are said to flourish outstandingly because of up to date syllabus and outstanding teaching procedure.

About the examination:

Any subject under the Semester IV in BE in Electronics and telecommunication engineering under Mumbai University is evaluated out of 200. The distribution of the marks is such that the theory examination is of 100 marks, practical examination is of 50 marks, oral examination of 25 marks and term effort is of 25 marks. The oral and term effort is given by the college itself, whereas the practical and theory examinations are done strictly under the university.

Syllabus:

1. Frequency response:

General concepts, decibels, low frequency response characteristic, Gain bandwidth product, high frequency response of cascade amplifiers, effect of low frequency and high frequency on coupling and bypass capacitors.

2.   Multistage amplifiers:

RC coupled, transformer coupled, direct coupled, Low and high frequency considerations, cascade amplifier, darlington pair, their performance. Analysis and design considerations of multistage amplifiers, effect of source and load resistance. Differential amplifiers, their types, small signal analysis, differential
stage, level shifter.

3.  Large signal amplifiers:

Harmonic distortion and power efficiency of Class A,B, AB and CAmplifiers. Thermal considerations and design selection of heat sinks.

4. Feedback amplifiers:

Feedback concept, ideal feedback amplifier, classification of feedbacks,Topology, analysis and design of different types of negative feedback, General analysis of multistage of multistage feedback and multiloop Feedback amplifiers

5.   Oscillators:

Principle of oscillation, RC oscillator, Wein bridge oscillator, twin T oscillator, oscillator with LC feedback. Colpitt oscillator, clap oscillator, Armstrong oscillator, Crystal controlled oscillator.

6.   Multivibrator Circuits:

Bistable Multivibrators, Schmitt Trigger, Monostable Multivibrator,Retriggerable Monostable Multivibrator, Astable Multivibrator.

Type of questions:

The question paper has questions from almost every part of the syllabus concentrating on almost all the main points. The questions are subjective as well as objective type.

Recommendations:

Students are recommended to follow large number of mock test and internal test to do well in the examinations. Following the suggestions are also said to née beneficial.

Paper pattern:

There are all together 7 questions in the question paper. Every question is of 20 marks. However, one doesn’t require answering all the 7 questions asked in the paper. Only 5 questions are to be answered, but choosing those 5 has some hard and fast rule. One will have to choose one question from each section. The remaining two questions can be from any section. This means one will have to answer at least one question from each section. The question is further subdivided in to sub questions.

Time allotted:

The time allotted for one to answer the paper is 3 hours only.
