University of Allahabad was established in the year 1887 as a premier Central University. The university is located in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Verghese Kurlen is the Chancellor of the university while Professor Anil K. Singh is the Vice Chencellor. The university has an urban campus and the university is affiliated to University Grants Commission. The university was initially named Oxford of the East but its name was changed later when it was awarded with the status of being a Central University. The university was restored under University Allahabad Act, 2005, Parliament of India.
