Reference Books for UGC NET (Home Science)
National Eligibility Test (NET) in Home Science conducted by the Union Grants Commission (UGC) consists of three papers. Paper I is on general aptitude and reasoning skills where as paper II and III are subject-based. There are many reference books available to prepare for all three papers.
Examination Pattern of UGC NET (Home Science)
Paper I has questions on research aptitude, logical reasoning, general knowledge, current affairs etc.
Paper II (also called Part A) is subject – based. Paper II contains 50 objective type questions. The questions can be multiple choice, True/False, Assertion/Reasoning or Matching type. Paper II carries 100 marks.
Paper III (also called Part B) also contains questions from various topics under Home Science. It is a descriptive paper. Candidates are required to answer 10 short answer questions. Each question carries 16 marks. There is an elective section within this paper that carries 40 marks. Candidates can choose one particular elective section.

Candidates should also refer textbooks studied during the Bachelor’s and Master’s programme in Home Science. In addition to these books, candidates can also refer journals and websites on related topics for a more comprehensive overview. Magazines and books containing information regarding current affairs and general knowledge will also be useful.
Aspirants can prepare as per the syllabus prescribed for Home Science by UGC. The syllabus can be downloaded from the UGC website. Candidates should choose an elective that has adequate reference materials. Choosing an elective earlier gives the candidate enough time to prepare thoroughly.
