Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology offers various technical courses at under graduate, post graduate and Ph.d levels. Diploma holders are eligible for admission to graduate level courses in engineering. Admission to the courses is offered either through lateral entry or direct entry. Lateral entry seats are reserved for candidates who have completed their diploma course from SLIET. Other candidates with required qualification can have admission through direct entry.

Basic eligibility for engineering admissions in SLIET

Diploma is the basic eligibility required for admission to engineering courses in SLIET. The course must be pursued in the related stream of engineering in which candidate wish to seek admission. Minimum 50% of marks in diploma is mandatory for admission. Reserved category candidates need to possess 45% marks only. Qualifying diploma program must be completed either from SLIET or any other institute approved by State Board of Technical Education.

Admission Procedure for Engineering courses in SLIET

Admission for engineering courses in SLIET is offered through two ways, lateral entry and direct entry.

Admission through Vertical Entry

Lateral entry seats are meant only for candidates who have completed diploma from SLIET. Those who got admission to diploma program in 2010-2011 are eligible for engineering admissions in 2012. SLIET conducts an entrance test (Set V) for the selection process. Entrance test consist of a single paper which must be completed with in two and half hours time period. There will be 150 multiple choice questions carrying one mark each. Questions for the test will be from the following topics.

• English language
• General Knowledge
• Mental Aptitude
• Mathematics
• Physics
• Chemistry
• Basics of Engineering (concerned stream)

Apart from the score of entrance test, marks obtained in qualifying diploma are also considered during admission. Equal weightage will be given to entrance test score and academic score.

Admission through Direct Entry

Any candidate who possesses the necessary eligibility can seek admission through direct entry. Such candidates should attend an entrance test (Set III) carried out by SLIET at national level. Exam pattern and syllabus for the test will be same as that of lateral entry test.
