Kannur University was established in the year 1996 under the Government of India. The university is located at Kannur, Kerala. Mr. R.S. Gavai is the Chancellor of the university while Dr. P. K. Michael Tharakan is the Vice-Chancellor of the university. The main campus of the university is located at Mangattuparamba which is in Kannur District.
