Bio ceramic courses as an incredible aspect of the medical science
Biocompatible ceramic materials are known as bioceramics. Biocermaics is an important subject in biomedical engineering. The courses in biomedical engineering cover the application of bioceramics in medical science. Some institutes like Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology offer Ph.D in biocermaics.
Bioceramics in medical science
Bioceramics are used in joint or tissue replacements. They are used as coatings in metal implants which function as resorbable lattice providing temporary structures or frame works which get dissolved and are replaced when the body rebuilds the tissues. Bioceramic materials are used in surgical implants and medical devices. Bioceramics are perfect materials that can be used for medical applications as they are biocompatible and have physical properties which are similar to the tissues which are to be replaced or repaired.
Biocermaics is widely used in many human implants. They have a property to interact with the surrounding fluids when used as an implant. They gradually get absorbed by the body and promote bone regeneration. Currently bioceramic materials are extensively used for various medical applications and are used for reconstruction and repair of different damages parts or diseases of musculo-skeletal system. Biocermaics is also used in plastic surgery, maxillofacial, and tumor therapy.
Bioceramics in endodontics
Bioceramics are extensively used in endodontics. Bioceramics include bioactive glass, alumina and zirconia, glass ceramics, hydroxyapatite and resorbable calcium phosphates, coatings and composites, and radiotherapy glasses. Alumina and Zirconia are used for many prosthetic devices. One can find glass ceramics and bioactive glasses in many trade names. Bone defects are filled by calcium phophaet based materials. Bio aggregates and calcium silicates are used as root repair materials in dentistry. The main advantage of using bioceramics in dental application is due to its physical properties. The bioceramic materials are extremely biocompatible, do not shrink, non-toxic, and are chemically stable. These materials do no result in inflammatory response if there is overfilling during the root repair. Another advantage of bioceramics is its ability to gel with hydroxyapatite. This creates a bond between the filling material and the dentin.
Bioceramic course and its impact in medical science
Bioceramic courses deals with diverse aspects of ceramics and are a complete reference for various anatomical needs, medial and human physiological needs. These courses render diversed applications in medical field. Hence, the course promises a significant support to medical science, owing to the diversified aspects that it covers in the medical field. There have been enormous developments in this field and the research works of the innovative minds promise for even more development in the days to come.
